The Hearing Services Program (HSP)

How to Apply for Subsidised Hearing Services Program in Australia

Learn how the Australian Government Hearing Services Program (HSP) can assist you in accessing hearing aid technology and hearing services if you are eligible. Below is a step by step guide to applying for the Hearing Services Program. Applying for the HSP is easy and takes less than five minutes.

Step 1: Check your eligibility

To check if you are eligible for the Australian Government Hearing Services Program (HSP), call our friendly team on 1300 010 064. We will ask you to provide a few details in order to assess if you meet the criteria.

To start the application you will be asked to provide the following information:

  1. Your first and last name
  2. Your date of birth
  3. Eligibility number, i.e. Centrelink, DVA – found on government-issued cards

We will check your details to determine if you are eligible. This only takes a few minutes and can be done 100% over the phone.

Step 2: Provide your contact preferences

If you are found to be eligible for the Australian Governments Hearing Services Program and you decide you would like to continue the application process, you will be asked to provide your contact information. This will include:

  1. Address
  2. E-mail
  3. Phone number

This information completes the application. We will then ask if you would like to receive the Australian Government Hearing Services program welcome pack that provides you with important information.

Step 3: Book a hearing test

If you would like to book your hearing test, this can also be done on the phone. Within the welcome pack, you’ll find a list of service providers to choose from.

Each of these service providers is required to fulfil the requirements of service set by the Hearing Services Program. This service agreement standardises the processes of accessing the services and maintains a minimum standard for service quality.

EarDeals can assist you with making the appointment at the same time you decide to check your eligibility. This process takes five minutes to complete.

Step 4: Read the guidance fact sheet

Prior to your appointment, it is important that you are fully aware of your rights and what will be provided to you under the Australian Governments Hearing Services Program.
